Third-year Spatial Design project.
Located in Kilbirnie, Kura kūkūwai is seen when sea levels rise by one meter, affecting the surrounding environment, especially Kilbirnie Park and the existing school.  Kura Kukuwai explores how seawater interacts with our environment and how we can use processes like wetland planting to create opportunities for students and the community.
Through this design, students can learn about the land and how we can use its resources to develop relationships with kaitiakitanga. This learning occurs through wānanga, korero, purakua and mahi
Kura kūkūwai allows people of all ages to come together and connect with the land on a deeper level, understanding the importance of our surrounding environment.
